Students from Newton Black Belt Academy performing at our first ever Belt Exams in the Park! Due to the current circumstances, Belt Exams in the Park became a way for our students to come together in a safe and responsible way. The students demonstrated confidence, respect and perseverance working out on the grass at Unwin Park!
Tigers, Karate Kids, Teens, Adults and Black Belts all tested in front of high rank judges including Sr. Master Karpiuk, 7th Degree Black Belt. The different environment came with some nervousness which the students quickly overcame. Belt Exams in the Park may become an annual summer event. This makes Belt Exams during Covid – 19 something different, safe and exciting!
To help them do their best, students were encouraged by their family and friends who cheered them on from lawn chairs and blankets! The background activity from the pool, soccer fields and baseball diamonds enhanced the atmosphere for this exciting event!
Master Karpiuk’s Legacy Members, consisting of his teenager assistant instructors, used their leadership skills to run the belt exams. They also performed a cool weapons demonstration to the delight of the other students and family present.
The theme of “Respect is not what you know, it’s what you do!” was evident throughout the belt exam! Students obeying on command, giving 100% with eye contact and loud confident answer ups were just some of the aspects demonstrated.
“Working out online is nice, but this is way better!” commented one parent. “My child was nervous but tried to do their best” another said.
